奇琦同学，于11月27至28日，作为天津英华国际学校代表之一，参加“天津市第一届中学生模拟联合国大会”。比赛中，奇琦凭借着纯熟的英语，机智的思维，荣获大会最佳表现奖。我们骄傲，我们英华有这样优秀的学子；我们自豪，我们定能培养出一个又一个像奇琦一样优秀的毕业生。

A Summary of the Model UN

Participating in the Model United Nations Conference has been an utmost amazing experience for me. Before this event, I had little knowledge about how the United Nations operated. At first, I thought that only the bigger developed countries had a say in the decisions made at the United Nations but as I was the delegate of Turkmenistan , I realised that every country in the United Nations has a say in the decisions being made. Setting the agenda in the United Nations is a very complex procedure which must follow many rules. At first, a lot of the students had a tough time getting the hang of it but slowly, everyone got the hang of it. Another thing I learned was that many decisions in the UN can be made not during the official conference but during tea breaks and meals. Many of the delegates would discuss their country’s issues while we sat and ate lunch in the cafeteria. I was able to get to know more about many smaller countries which I hadn’t even heard of before.

To me, the meeting was a success. I was part of the ESCAP which talked about the exploitation of natural resources in pacific countries such as China , Russia , USA and of course, Turkmenistan . My partner and I were able to become the sponsors of a draft resolution with some major developed countries such as USA and Russia . Though our draft resolution was not passed, I still felt proud of our achievements.

Being able to attend this meeting made me become even more interested in the political world and I hope to be able to have such an experience again.
